S/V Downeast Thunder will be a 28’ LOD sailing dory. It will feature a 10’ beam and 4’ draft. This vessel shall be fast and easy to build, plus inexpensive (relatively speaking of course). This week’s video will reveal a rendering of the vessel, show you some of the reclaimed wood I’ve collected so far, and the build site where I intend to start building the boat.

I have completed a couple of renderings to show what the completed vessel will look like. I’ll show you the starboard (right) side view in this video, and the other can be found on my Patreon page https://www.patreon.com/downeastthunder  I’ve recently launched this Patreon page and this is where you will find more in-depth information and details if you’re interested in this project. Otherwise, I’ll continue to share progress here on my YouTube channel on a weekly basis for the general public not wishing to become a Patron.

If you wish to become a Patron, you can do so for as little as only $1.00 per month! That’s only $12.00 per year and you can cancel your subscription at any time. As a Patron, you won’t miss any of what is going on around here at Downeast Thunder, and I make updates on Patreon daily! This is also where you’ll find the pdf downloads for my sailboat drawings at no charge.

Your support will go a long way in helping this project move along, so please consider becoming a Patron on my Patreon page at https://www.patreon.com/DowneastThunder

This large sailing dory design was heavily influenced by the late John Gardner and the St. Pierre Dory, plus Jay Benford’s portfolio of large sailing dory designs. Annie Hall’s book “Voyaging on a Small Income” is quite convincing and influential as she describes her experience with the Jay Benford designed, 34’ sailing dory, “Badger.”

The final construction drawings (once I’m happy with the initial lines drawings) will be made available at a later date.

Many thanks to all my subscribers for participating, commenting, liking, and sharing my videos. I very much appreciate your continued support of my YouTube channel. It’s a lot of fun for me, and I hope this trend continues.
